Thank you again for taking this time to let me share with you the greatest news ever. Jesus loves us and wants to be close to us. He promises us He will never leave us or forsake us. In this transitioning world and times of uncertainties, this is truly wonderful news.
As our study of discipleship continues, we remain focused on Jesus as the author and perfector of our faith and service. Jesus is the Master Teacher of all times. Jesus taught people how to teach people. Shortly after He was baptized by John the Baptizer and faced temptation from the devil in the wilderness, He was set to begin His ministry (Matt. 3:1-ff, Mark 1:1-ff). The amazing aspect of Jesus’ teaching is He taught with purpose. He called His disciples from many different walks of life. He entrusted people to teach other people. Jesus’ classroom was outside of the four walls of a lecture hall, where application would be the lesson itself. Jesus’ teaching was impacting; it was described as amazing and with authority. “When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching, for He was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes” (Matt 7:28-29).
This week we are going to be looking at Jesus’ calling of His first disciples. As we study the beginning of the gospels, we will find some very interesting results of the disciples’ calling. They were going to get to see their Master in action. The situations and events they would find themselves in would change their lives forever. He called them, they followed Him and we have the rest of the narrative to learn from.
We too, are called to follow Jesus and His Word! The question is; will it be like those first disciples? Will we respond to Jesus’ call in a positive way?
We begin answering that call by responding in a positive way by worshiping Him in Spirit and Truth this Sunday. We respond positively by participating in taking of the bread and cup of blessing for the forgiveness of our sins. We know He is coming back for His own, will He find us watching and waiting?
In Christ,
Steve
